Rain Didn’t Stop Play

Despite the wet weather over the May Bank Holiday weekend, fund-raising efforts by the Friends of Bude Sea Pool got off to a superb start. A team of keen ‘Friends’ donned their highly visible SOS (Save Our Seapool) t-shirts down at the Pool on Bank Holiday Monday, meeting members of the public and explaining the current situation.

‘It’s absolutely vital that we tell the Pool’s regular users and occasional visitors what’s happening’ explained Rowena Hoseason who co-ordinates the FoBSP’s activities. ‘Many people come to Bude once or twice a year, and while they may have heard rumours about the Pool’s future they don’t know that we need to be self-funding for 2012. So an important part of our role is telling folk what’s going on.’

Many people were very generous in dropping coins into the FoBSP collecting tins, too, and the group will be organising a poolside presence again in the summer during key dates in August. Meanwhile, special ‘behind the scenes’ preview tours of the Strand Hotel took place over the weekend, with all proceeds going towards Sea Pool funds. North Coast Wines held a special wine-tasting evening and kindly donated their proceeds to the FoBSP too. Thanks to everyone for their very kind contributions!
