DESCRIPTION:Come and see Ian’s stunning photographic study of our winter swimming community at Bude Sea Pool.  For Ian’s MA work he has made Bude Sea Pool his focus throughout his studies.  He has even joined the winter swimmers in cold dipping himself! Open from 10-6 daily over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.  He will also be offering talks at 11am & 2pm daily.\n\nHere is Ian’s introduction to the images:\n\nThe Sea Pool\, a liminal space between land and sea\, a transitional space between tides\, a place where humanity connects with nature in a space shaped by human activity. Where the going in and the coming out of its swimmers resonates with the ebb and flow of its tidal rhythm. \n‘Winter haven’ investigates the spatial\, physical\, sensory\, social\, and emotional relationships between Bude Sea Pool’s community of swimmers and volunteers sustaining itself through the winter months.

DESCRIPTION:Reserve your team’s place for the Channel Challenge swimming event September 2024 \n  \nCan you believe that 2024 will be the 10th anniversary of our Channel Challenge swim event in Bude Sea Pool? \n  \nThe swim will be held on Saturday September 28th 2024\, from 7am until 6pm (or until the last swimmer has finished). As it’s the 10th anniversary we are looking to hold additional celebrations and fun events of all things ‘swimmy’ on the Sunday 29th too\, with a French themed party\, refreshments and disco at Crooklets cafe on Saturday night. On Sunday we will also see if collectively we can put in the miles in the pool to swim back to England! \n  \nPlease note this is a fun\, fund-raising event for the pool for both elite and recreational swimmers. The English channel is 22 miles wide and so 20 lengths of Bude Sea Pool equates to one mile. Teams can be a mixture of those individuals wanting to do several miles\, to those wanting to challenge themselves with a half to one mile as well. \n  \nWe have made a few changes to the event this year. For example booking will be direct with FoBSP rather than using Eventbrite. Also we will encourage fast swimmers to use the usual lane rope which we put in the pool for the event\, so slower swimmers can use the rest of the pool to complete their challenge. Drinks and refreshments will be free for all swimmers\, and we are looking at offering commemorative t-shirts in addition to tickets for the evening party. \n  \nThis swim challenge is very popular with places available for 15 teams (of up to around 20 members as a guide) so please reserve your team’s place by Monday 1st April by email (see below). Team places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis\, with a reserve list drawn up after that. \nPlease email eventslead@budeseapool.org heading up your email 2024 Channel Challenge\, with your name\, telephone number and email. Please also include where your team will be travelling from as this will be useful information for planning. You will receive a confirmation email within a few days\, indicating whether your team has a place or whether you are on the reserve list. \n  \nWe will then be in contact with you at the beginning of May with further details of the weekend\, asking for further information about your team members\, and for payment of the team entry fee of £140. \n  \nLooking forward to seeing you there. DESCRIPTION:Your freestyle pull produces most of your propulsion while you’re swimming\, but there are many things that can affect your technique and slow you down. The pull is your engine in freestyle. It’s responsible for most of the propulsion you create\, and it’s what helps you move forward and create speed. Although all the components of freestyle are important and required\, the pull is the most important when it comes to moving forward. It’s where most of the work is done. A great pull is simple. The goal is to create a large paddle with your whole arm and then use that paddle to push backward against the water and move yourself forward. There are two major components to the pull. The first is more of a set-up phase. After your arm enters the water\, it needs to be repositioned so that it faces backward\, ready to push against the water. Once it is\, then the second half of your pull begins: a strong and fast motion that pushes water backward and moves you forward. Executing both components is critical for a great pull.

DESCRIPTION:Freestyle kick is an important part of having a strong and powerful freestyle stroke. Here are 4 reasons why freestyle kick will help improve your freestyle. • Creates the ideal body position Kicking while freestyling not only adds propulsion to your stroke\, making you swim faster and longer\, but it also helps create the ideal body position; high in the water\, long through the core and legs in line with your torso and arms. • Adds propulsion to your stroke By having a consistent freestyle flutter kick you help create more propulsion to get your body through the water. This propulsion helps to move you through the water faster and smoother and it also takes a lot of the load off your shoulders\, which helps reduce the onset of shoulder injuries. • Keeps your stroke balanced Kicking helps to keep your freestyle stroke balanced and together. A consistent kick will leave you looking smooth in the water; with long arms\, a high body position\, and a good breathing pattern. With just the right amount of kick\, it will also help with your endurance during those longer open-water swims.
