10th Anniversary Channel Challenge

Reserve your team’s place for the Channel Challenge swimming event September 2024

Can you believe that 2024 will be the 10th anniversary of our Channel Challenge swim event in Bude Sea Pool?

The swim will be held on Saturday September 28th 2024, from 7am until 6pm (or until the last swimmer has finished). As it’s the 10th anniversary we are looking to hold additional celebrations and fun events of all things ‘swimmy’ on the Sunday 29th too, with a French themed party, refreshments and disco at Crooklets cafe on Saturday night. On Sunday we will also see if collectively we can put in the miles in the pool to swim back to England!

Please note this is a fun, fund-raising event for the pool for both elite and recreational swimmers. The English channel is 22 miles wide and so 20 lengths of Bude Sea Pool equates to one mile. Teams can be a mixture of those individuals wanting to do several miles, to those wanting to challenge themselves with a half to one mile as well.

We have made a few changes to the event this year. For example booking will be direct with FoBSP rather than using Eventbrite. Also we will encourage fast swimmers to use the usual lane rope which we put in the pool for the event, so slower swimmers can use the rest of the pool to complete their challenge. Drinks and refreshments will be free for all swimmers, and we are looking at offering commemorative t-shirts in addition to tickets for the evening party.

This swim challenge is very popular with places available for 15 teams (of up to around 20 members as a guide) so please reserve your team’s place by Monday 1st April by email (see below). Team places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis, with a reserve list drawn up after that.

Please email eventslead@budeseapool.org heading up your email 2024 Channel Challenge, with your name, telephone number and email. Please also include where your team will be travelling from as this will be useful information for planning. You will receive a confirmation email within a few days, indicating whether your team has a place or whether you are on the reserve list.

We will then be in contact with you at the beginning of May with further details of the weekend, asking for further information about your team members, and for payment of the team entry fee of £140.
